The 2026 World Cup spans more than five thousand kilometres from the Pacific to the Atlantic. These tips, gathered by the Stadium Atlas 2026 editors, focus on the practical side of attending matches across three countries — climate, logistics, money and small habits that make match day easier.
Plan around the climate
Summer in North America is not one weather pattern but four. Pack to the city, not the calendar.
- Heat belt — Houston, Dallas, Miami: expect 32–38 °C with high humidity. Light cotton, electrolyte sachets and a hat are non-negotiable.
- High altitude — Mexico City sits at 2,240 m. Arrive at least 48 hours before kick-off and ease into walking.
- Coastal mild — Vancouver, Seattle and Boston rarely exceed 24 °C in June. A light jacket for evening matches is sensible.
- Indoor venues — SoFi, AT&T, NRG, Mercedes-Benz and BC Place have roofs. Carry a light layer for the contrast between the street and the bowl.
Getting to the stadium
Public transit first
BMO Field in Toronto, Lumen Field in Seattle and BC Place in Vancouver all sit on or near rapid transit. Buy a transit pass on arrival rather than relying on rideshare on match day.
Park-and-ride for suburban venues
MetLife, Levi's, Gillette and Arrowhead are island stadiums — bus shuttles from designated lots are usually faster than approaching by car.
Allow extra time for security
FIFA tournaments use clear-bag policies and full body screening. Arrive ninety minutes before kick-off rather than the usual sixty.
Mexico City — taxis through your hotel only
Use sitio cabs booked from your accommodation or licensed rideshare. Estadio Azteca traffic is heavy from three hours before kick-off.
Money and payments
- Contactless card payment works in nearly every venue. American Express is uneven in Mexico — keep a Visa or Mastercard as backup.
- Carry a small amount of local cash for parking, market stalls and tips.
- Tipping in the US is 18–22% in sit-down restaurants. Canada is similar. Mexico is closer to 10–15%.
- Some venues are fully cashless. Bring at least one prepaid card with a balance you have verified.

Stadium-day habits worth keeping
- Eat before you arrive. Concession queues at full venues are long and prices are steep.
- Carry a refillable water bottle — most venues now have free water stations.
- Save the venue location offline in your maps app. Stadium-area mobile data is patchy at peak times.
- Agree a meeting point with your group before entering. Mobile networks struggle near a packed concourse.
- Check the bag policy on the venue's official site the morning of the match. It changes between events.
Respect the local game
Each host city has a football culture worth tasting. Watch a Liga MX warm-up in Guadalajara. Visit a CPL bar in Toronto. Sit in the supporters' section at a Sounders match if a Lumen Field date overlaps.
